Overview

Discover Muscat from its grandest landmarks to one of its most unexpected landscapes.

The day begins at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of Oman’s most impressive architectural landmarks, before continuing through the capital to the historic waterfront of Muttrah. Walk along the Corniche, explore the lanes of Muttrah Souq and discover how Muscat’s harbour connected Oman with Arabia, India, Persia and East Africa for centuries.

Continue into Old Muscat, tucked between rugged mountains and the sea, to explore the area around Al Alam Palace and the old harbour before stopping for a relaxed local lunch.

In the afternoon, the character of the journey changes completely.

Leaving Muscat’s historic quarters behind, we travel towards Bousher and leave the paved road for the sand. Your private 4WD takes you into the Bousher Dunes for a gentle off-road drive and time to explore the landscape.

As the temperature drops and the light softens, we find a quiet place among the dunes to watch the sunset with Omani coffee and dates.

From mosque courtyards and old trading streets to sand beneath the wheels, this is a full day exploring two very different sides of Muscat.

The Bousher Dunes section is a gentle off-road experience rather than extreme dune bashing.

Sand and weather conditions can affect the exact route taken through the dunes.
